GAYLETTER’s NYE ROUND-UP

Here's what you can and should do on the last night of of the year

Hello, Hello, Hello,

Welcome to GAYLETTER’s NYE round-up. Here you’ll find a list of all the best parties you can attend this Saturday night. We will probably be at least a couple of them, so if you see us, feel free to stop by and say hello. A kiss would also be nice. And if you’re feeling extra friendly a quick handy would also be a wonderful way to welcome in the New Year.

See you in 2017!

FRIDAY 30

PARTY: Love Is the Message Benefit
NYE is my favorite holidays because it’s based on nothing religious and everything revolves around alcohol. Not really sure what else to say. So, yeah, if you’re like me, you’re trying to get this weekend started on the right foot. Eli Escobar is a sweetheart and rounded up some fabulous DJs to put on an amazing evening at Good Room that will graciously say goodbye to 2016 “by sharing some love on the dancefloor. Twelve NYC DJs are donating their time for the ‘Love is the Message Benefit’ with all proceeds going to the Trevor Project and the International Refugee Assistance Project.” Some of my favorite NY DJs will be spinning (Amber Valentine, JD Samson). After a really wonky year, this is the really your best way to put a start to the end.
$20, 10:00pm, Good Room, 98 Meserole Ave. Brooklyn, NY.

SATURDAY 31
PARTY: Glitter Fest

This is about the gayest of gay events you could attend this NYE. I mean, check out the tagline for the event “BRING IN THE NEW YEAR RIGHT WITH LOTS OF GLITTER!!!!!” Ok girl, that is a real carry. But I ain’t mad, I really can’t think of anyone I’d rather spend NYE with than Merrie Cherry (who is planning this party). Macri Park and Merrie Cherry would like to invite all you beautiful people to venue for a night of dancing, music, and shows.” Those shows include Merrie Cherry, Ragamuffin, and Ms. Ter. Beats are by Jonathan Love and it’s hosted by Jessie Tibbs-Tacke and the wonderfully named Crystal Mesh.

$5 before midnight, 10:00pm, Macri Park, 462 Union Ave. Brooklyn, NY.

PARTY: NYE Get Wrecked & Carry

This is a party for after the clock strikes midnight and seconds before your girl molly drops by. Here’s what to expect: “Get Wrecked and Carry for our 12-hour NYE rager. Ron Like Hell and Ryan Smith from Wrecked will handle 12-6AM and Will Automagic and Nita Aviance from The Carry Nation will handle 6AM-12PM.” Yes you read that right, this party does not end until midday the 1st of Jan, 2017. That’s 12 hours of getting wrecked and carrying to your heart’s content. They tell us that “advance tickets are strongly encouraged.” So if you don’t want to miss out do what they say and pick up some tix before you get too fucked up and lose your wallet on NYE. Should be a fun party for those who like to dance.

11:55pm, Analog BKNY, 177 2nd Avenue. Brooklyn, NY.

PARTY: Ova the Rainbow – Dagger x OVA NYE

Brooklyn is lit as hell for NYE. The Dreamhouse is always giving the queers the space they need so their NYE party features: a very juicy DJ lineup, an invite to bring champagne so everyone can get some bubbly, and a pink theme! “THINK PINK CHAMPAGNE, ROSE GOLD, CHROME PINK.” So cute. The Dreamhouse says: “We have been waiting in anticipation to bring back Dagger for it’s first love affair with The Dreamhouse & many more in 2017. After a difficult year for everyone in the USA & around the world it’s time to make new Heroes, Architecture and Legends & fight those who oppose us a lil harder.” This party reeks of inclusivity. You’re not going to find many places to be entirely yourself on NYE, but trust, this is one of them.

$15 before 11:30PM, $20 after, The Dreamhouse, 10-22 Wyckoff Ave. Ridgewood, NY.

PARTY: Night Riders

The Culture Whore & Rify Royalty present Night Riders New Years Eve! Dream and Paul recently announced that they are shutting down The Culture Whore in 2017 (for those of you that don’t know it was an amazing and very helpful party guide) and this will be their final celebration. This party sounds very promising, as Dream explains that the vibe is “Westworld meets Joanne meets Studio 54.” As per usual The Culture Whore is bringing a crew of interesting people including Aquaria, Boy Radio, Boywolf, Bunny Michael, Slater G. String, Michael Magnan (DJing), Chris Tyler, Issa Israel, Lucas Blair, Diego Montoya, Jordan Stawecki, TigerKyle Rogers and many more… Their Facebook page is lit, they even have the names of all the hosts alphabetized. I’d say if you are looking for a rowdy, loooooong, and unforgettable NYE moment, here it is. “Yeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaw!”

$10-$15, 10:00PM-7:00PM, 1333 Atlantic Ave. Brooklyn, NY.

PARTY: Casa Diva Presents – NYE 2017

I just chatted with Tyler Ashley about this event, Tyler Ashley (who’s helping promote this event and is also performing). He told me what’s going down at Casa Diva, which is the name of the location where this party is taking place. It’s the second year that this event has happened. It’s a loft space with a big shared space and rooftop access.“Some of the resident performers listed for this event are people that either have lived there or currently do… It’s like a house party, but mega style.” Sounds an like an ideal way to celebrate the new year, It’s always good to keep good company around you and the family that you have created for yourself. Tyler told me not to forget to mention this part about the party: it’s a “specifically queer / trans / gender-non conforming dance party with shows.” Music is by Dicap and Next Year (Colin Self + Sam Banks). Shows by Charlene, Bailey Stiles, Oddly Enough, The Dauphine of Bushwick, Momo Shade, Qhrist With a Q, Mystic (Neptune) and more. Lots of hosts, but we can’t list them all. They said last year was a “DAMN CARRRRRRRY.” Makeout and maybe fuck? Enjoy.

$5 before midnight, $10 after, 10:00PM-4:00AM, CASSA DIVA, 1265 Atlantic AVE. BK, NY.

PARTY: TGI17

Here’s what Darren (Eastern Bloc owner) had to say about his bar’s NYE party: “FUCK YOU 2016, GOOD RIDDANCE.” I love the sentiment, it’s very topical, but let’s also be grateful for the good things that happened in 2016, like the election of Donald J. Trump. Ewwww, I’m just kidding, could you imagine if we were closeted Trump supporters? LOLOLOLOL. I’m not talking about good world events (there weren’t many of those) but I’m sure there were some good things that happened in your personal lives. Close your eyes and think of three, then go into 2017 with an attitude of gratitude. It’s the only way to do it! Music for the night is by DJs Sammy Jo and William Francis. There’s gonna be a midnight toast and everything you’d expect from Eastern Bloc on NYE.

$5, 10pm, Eastern Bloc Bar, 505 E 6th St. New York, NY.

PARTY: Club Mission NYE

Mission Chinese is one of the hardest restaurants in the city to get into so it makes sense that on NYE it will turn into one of the hardest clubs in the city to get into. But before you throw your hands up and ask why the hell we are featuring it, chillax. You can buy tickets in advance and guarantee yourself a spot inside. Tix are a tad pricey at $50 and up, but that space is super cute. We used to go there every Thursday night, years ago, when photographer Ryan Mcginley would host a queer party there, way before it became Mission Chinese. Hosts for the night include: Sussi Santeen and Exquisite, Oscar Ouk, Fatal Faux Pas, Raisa Flowers, Jazzeppi Zanaughtti. At midnight everyone will get a glass of champagne to toast the new year. That’s the least they can do for $50. Should be blast.

$50, 11:30pm, Mission Chinese, 171 E Broadway, New York, NY.
