NYE NEW YORK CITY GUIDE 2015

2015 Sashay Away...

We hope you are ready to say goodbye to 2015 and hello to 2016! Yes queens it’s time for a whole new year. 2016 is gonna be all about Hilary and Rihanna’s new album, and Beyonce finally making an effort with her Instagram account and Seamless orders being delivered by drones, and Rupaul coming back, and dick buffets (more about this in 2016), and all sorts of other wonderful things. We figured we’d make this week’s GAYLETTER an all New Year’s Eve affair.

So please enjoy our selections for the last night of 2015 and the first morning of 2016. Happy New Year!

Also enjoy some of our favorite selfie images from some of the GAYLETTER Selfie stories we published throughout 2015 above each write up.

PARTY: NYE WITH MYKKI BLANCO, CAKES DA KILLA & MIKEQ

OK, so this one is gonna be super cute and extra cunty. I mean Mykki Blanco and Cakes Da Killa and MikeQ and Venus X (GHE20G0TH1K) and LSDXOXO. Girl you’ll be bouncing till dawn with these queens. For only $30 bucks you get some of the best performers and DJs in the world. I mean Cakes alone is worth the price of entry. Then there’s Mykki who is unable to do anything but overdeliver when on stage. It’ll be hot and sweaty and high energy. You couldn’t ask for more from an New Years Eve event. #molly –TOM

EVENT: NYE AT QUEEN OF THE NIGHT

This event is for those of you with a sugar daddy or for that queen with a big budget that simply wants to have a grand new years. I mean it’s for everybody, fuck it, if you don’t have lots of coins you might as well spend the little of it you have left on something special. Think of it as the last fancy experience you’ll have in 2015. The Queen of the Night is usually a “surreal and unexpected” performance/dinner feast that’s held in a glamorous ballroom called The Diamond Horseshoe (Google it). On NYE they are hosting an “8 hour open bar James Bond theme fete and after party.” The menu includes Roasted Leg of Lamb, Salmon Wellington and “champagne to flow freely all night.” Dress up, drink up, eat up, get your money’s worth and imbibe your weight in bubbles. –ABI

$450, 6:30PM, open bar until 2:30am, After Party 2.30-4am, 235 W 46th St, NY, NY.

PARTY: BLACK AND GOLD

NYE can require too much work for too little reward, which is why it’s sometimes best to keep it simple and just enjoy yourself at a neighborhood bar. And when you have Merrie Cherry and a bunch of drag queens as your hosts and performers, you can’t really go wrong. Merrie Cherry and Horrorchata (they are also performing) will help us ring in the new year with shows by Thorgy Thor, Untitled Queen, Tyler Ashley, Scarlet Envy, Lady Quesadilla, and more. Hosts for the night are Jamesmichel and Ben Lindsay. Sounds cute as hell. –TOM

$5/$10, 9:00pm, Macri Park, 462 Union Ave, Brooklyn, NY.

PARTY: YOU ARE SO LUCKY

Your night will start at a warehouse in Brooklyn, from there guests are driven in a bus to a 72 room mansion just outside of Manhattan. The mansion is filled with DJs and performers along with mazes and bars over 3 floors. Expect performances by “viola soloist Christen Lien, exquisite Iranian opera by Bisan Toron, the robotic gamelan orchestra built by Aaron Taylor Kuffner. There’s live music by The Mast, and the throw-down dirty Dj’ing of Matt Kilmer, along with Dj’s Mike Tummolo and Shalin Scupham. Chief Boima, flying in from Brazil (care of OkayAfrica) brings the house/world-beat to the dancefloor. …and the third room? It’s all about trap music with some of the best up-and-coming MC’s in New York City showcasing their talents curated by Bella Woodward including future superstar Svpreme, Laya Laroche, Fredo Liscio.” Buses will take you back to the city every 30 minutes after midnight. This shit is extra, extra extravagant. Could be a mess, or one of the most magical nights of your life. I’m betting on the latter. –TOM Visit youaresolucky.com for tickets.

PARTY: AN EAST VILLAGE NEW YEARS AT EASTERNBLOC

The best type of New Years parties might be at your local bars, and this has been one of our favorite places since we started doing GAYLETTER. When we go there it just feels so easy. We have gotten drunk here so many times… and made so many new friends. Here’s an East Village new years featuring “the sluts of 2016,” not sure exactly who they are (the hosts?) but you gotta respect their commitment to being sluts, if that’s how they are gonna do 2016, great, it sounds like the right attitude. DJs for the night are the lovely, and our favorite Daddy, Darren Dryden plus Frankie Sharp and Sammy Jo. The party is hosted by Severely Mane and there’s a live performance by Sweetie. –ABI

$5 Before 12:00AM, 9:00PM-4:00AM, Eastern Bloc, 505 E 6th St. NY, NY.

PARTY: THE BEGINNING OF EVERYTHING

The House of Yes is a new venue in BK and NYE is their Grand Opening. This party is so popular that the only time you’ll be able to get in is after 4am. I’m not even kidding. All tickets for earlier in the night are sold out. But no biggie, the 4am ticket will let you dance until “sunrise and beyond.” If that molly is still kicking this is not a bad option to keep the party going. I’ll just leave you with the schedule for the morning: 4am-6am The Adversary + Reda Briki, 6am-8am Justin Aubuchon, 8am-12pm Jefferson 909, then from 2pm-4pm, New Year’s Day Yoga with Trixie Little. Yoga? These people aren’t messing about. –TOM

$20, 4:00am, House of YES, 2 Wyckoff Ave. Brooklyn, NY.

DO: CHANTING 108 HANUMAN CHALISAS

Every other event we’re recommending for NYE is going to give you a hangover, this won’t. Here’s your chance to build up some spiritual strength as you move into the new year. The Hanuman Chalisas is “a Hindu devotional hymn (stotra) addressed to Hanuman (a monkey like deity). It is traditionally believed to have been authored by 16th-century poet Tulsidas. There are more temples devoted to Hanuman than any other deity in India.” It’s believed that whoever chants the Chalisas with full devotion will receive Hanuman’s grace. The event goes all day long and no experience in chanting is necessary. Bring a pillow as you’ll be sitting on the floor. Ommmm! –TOM

8:00am-6:00pm, Tibet House US, 22 W 15th St. NY, NY.
