THE NIGHT PUNK DIED.
The Met Gala 2013 drawn to life.
We asked our illustrator Devin Wallace to draw a few of the looks from the Met Gala on Sunday night. The theme for the evening was “punk,” which from what we saw meant almost nothing to those in attendance. The fact that Vivienne Westwood, the mother of punk, was cut off while talking about the unfairly imprisoned Bradley Manning, on the red carpet, says all you need to know about how little respect Vogue (or maybe just Anna Wintour) has for the movement.
Grace Coddington, who’s the only good thing about that magazine, said it best on the night: “Well I’d like to see some real punks in here, some real street punks. But I doubt they were invited.”

First off, let’s just say we loved Miley’s Marc Jacob‘s look, it’s youthful, fun, unfussy; everything that American Vogue isn’t. Love the mesh, love the spiky hair. The Huffington Post headlined a photo of her with “What’s Up With The Hair?” What a fucking stupid question. The theme was punk, and Miley clearly took the directive seriously; we think it’s cunt!
Like Beyonce, and many others, Madonna wore Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci. I have no complaints with this look; it’s bold, her veiny, sinewy arms, legs, neck (let’s just go with whole body) is well covered, and the bob cut is like a cooler version of Anna’s hair.
Was Anna Wintour’s theme of “punk” for the gala actually an elaborate “punk” to embarrass celebrities? Cos I don’t see any punk in this Chanel Couture gown at all. If so, well done Anna, cos you made some bitches look hella foolish.
Ok, where do we even start with this one? We don’t want to sound insensitive because she is pregnant and all (however no one forced her to show up) but girl you look like like a badly upholstered couch in that beautiful floral Givenchy gown. I guess Kanye doesn’t want anyone, including his baby-momma, looking pretty than him. Well he succeeded.
Here is Anne Hathaway with some pretty blond hair. She reminds us of Sharon Stone from the early 2000s. She has been looking so boring on the red carpet lately, so we’re all for this blond-bombshell-and-black-vintage-Valentino-dress-with-side-boob look.
Check out Jennifer Lopez in a Michael Kors gown. My first thought was oh no, a fat-assed leopard has escaped from the San Juan Zoo, but then she turned around. I assume the faux-hawk is her attempt at looking punk. Roxxxy Andrews from Rupaul’s Drag Race has done this hair several times in this past season…I guess J-lo is a fan.
Vivienne Westwood, enough said.
