Julian Zigerli in Viktoriapark, Berlin

We asked the Swiss designer a few questions about his F/W 2019 ‘Ring My Bell’ collection, while the photographer captured him in cruising mode at the park

Julian decided to meet with Belgian photographer Stany Carré at Viktoriapark in Berlin for this story, he mentioned that they both had a strong connection with the city and Julian thought it was also the perfect playground for him to drop his pants in. The collection is called ‘Ring My Bell‘ which conjures many things — “there’s the cow bell, the song from Anita Ward from the 70’s and of course there’s always the word play on the testicles. It’s not a literal invitation to ring one’s bells, but it’s an invitation to trigger someone and inspire them.”

For this collection Julian Zigerli collaborated with artist Christoph Hefti to create patterns inspired by nature. We spotted hay, stones, and of course flowers. Julian tells us: “We literally went to a chalet in the mountains for 2 nights. Went to the forest and collected all the materials we found interesting. Asked farmers to give us some hay and picked flowers on the fields. Then it was a beautiful process of creating the prints in real life size on the terrace of the chalet.”

The collection is great for cruising in the parks: “you can blend in very well into the surroundings but you can also easily draw attention to yourself. You just need a flashlight to spot the unicorn in the forest, and of course, easy access that sweatpants and push button jackets allow.”

From this collection, Julian loves to wear this total look the most: “The stones and stripes tracksuit from far it looks like a bold stripe pattern and from up close you can see it’s created out of hay, stones, flowers etc. Also, it’s super comfortable and perfect for when you want to drop your pants.”

“The bags are a collaboration with the zürich based bag label QWSTION. It's our second collaboration working with reflective materials. For this season we used the same graphic wooden structure which we also used in the knitwear and created black bags where a rainbow reflection appears once you flash it with a lamp — it's very mysterious.”

We wanted to confirm with Julian that Switzerland was a good place for cruising and getting naked, he replied: “of course! pure nature and beautiful sights, a breath of fresh alpine air between the cheeks.”
