Party: Sinfectious with Christeene, Will Sheridan + Futurehood DJs

There’s so much going on at this event, I don’t know where to start. This is going to be a Brooklyn, late night rager. There’s about a million different DJs and also a performance by Christeene (pictured). Here’s what the organizers have to say about that: “Christeene (Austin, TX) makes a special NYC appearance for SINFECTIOUS this Saturday, performing in Brooklyn for the first time in nearly a year and a half. Her live show will feature the electro/party-rock/techno tracks that has built her international stage presence over the past decade as well as some new sexy shit.” Christeene is a trip! Also performing is Will Sheridan, who has promised to go “deeper… deeper than you’ve ever been, than you’ve ever been before.” Sounds intense and very enjoyable, bring poppers. The DJs for the night include Mister Wallace, aCeb00mbaP, Jody Sokolowski and Jeffrey Hinton. It starts at 10:00pm but will probably go all night. Should be a blast!

$10-$20, 10:00pm, The Kymberle Project, 1332 Atlantic Ave. Brooklyn, NY.

Event: GAYLETTER AT Printed Matter’s LA Art Book Fair

Soooo, we know that this is taking place in Los Angeles but we have some readers on the West Coast, and this is a super special shout out to them. The LA Art Book Fair is taking place this weekend (there’s a press preview Thursday night, and it goes until Sunday Feb. 29th) and we (as in GAYLETTER Magazine) will be there! Come say hi to us at our booth (X11). We’ll have copies of all the issues of the magazine for sale. And also a few other goodies. The fair is taking place at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, which is super exciting as it’s one of my favorite places to visit whenever I’m in LA. Last year they had 36,000 attendees. That’s 3,000 less than attended the last NYC fair (we can’t help but win as a city) but still very impressive. Besides us there’s gonna be booths from all kinds of mags and art book publishes from all over the world. It really is one of the most unique events you can attend, whether in LA or in New York. Come say hi and have a kiki with us — we’re very very very friendly.

FREE, 11:00am-6:00pm, The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, 152 N Central Ave. LA, CA.

Event: UNCONDITIONAL AT THE ACE HOTEL

Sound is one of the most severe senses as it gives us the ability to hear the things we want, when we want, and hear the things we don’t want, when we least expect it. I sound like I’m talking about being politically correct and I am; there are many words in the American lexicon that are dedicated toward degrading immigrants and minorities, and everyone loves to fucking use them. The Ace Hotel and B&O have teamed up for an awesome installation dedicated to providing the space for “stories, sounds and songs of a courageous and pioneering immigrant population” to be heard. The work featured (via an open call) will range from “those of travel, respect, immigration and tolerance and overlapping sounds will create a unified din with moments of interplay, harmony and tension.” The installation’s mission is to evoke the myriad voices that make up the everyday sounds of America and with our current state of foreign affairs (i.e. immigration ban) “B&O PLAY plans to use their voice to advocate for acceptance and celebration of our country’s glorious history as a melting pot. We’ll be quiet and let other stories be heard.” The event will also accept and make donations to the ACLU and The New York State Youth Leadership Council, the first undocumented youth led organization in New York.

FREE, 5:00PM, Ace Hotel New York, Lobby, 20 W. 29th St., NY, NY

APPARATUS Auction – A benefit for The LGBT Center

The NY-based design studio APPARATUS is hosting a silent auction for The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center on February 22nd at 7:00PM at their NYC studio. “The auction will raise funds for the ever-growing youth programming at The Center. The services provided by The Center include programming that address poverty and substance abuse among young people.” We are super excited for this event, we love the work that LGBT Center does — we even shot our last cover at their iconic Keith Haring bathroom. “The center is the nation’s first ever outpatient treatment program specifically designed for LGBT youth and young adults.”

I went to the APPARATUS studio last year and I was very impressed with the space, it’s beautiful and done with great taste. I left that place thinking WOW these boys (Gabriel Hendifar and Jeremy Anderson) have such great taste — they are not playing… We learned from the press release that they “have been invested in The Center for a few years and were personally drawn to The Center’s youth outreach when they had the opportunity to visit The Centers youth camp last summer.” The event involves a great committee including the amazing Mx Justin Vivian Bond who will be the M.C. for the night. Other hosts include Rupaul’s Drag Race season 7 winner Violet Chachki, Ali and Cass BirdKeith PollockJamie Drake, Caleb Anderson, Casey Kenyon, Keith Pollock and Adam Selman. The music will be provided by DJ Lina. …

Party: BABY TEA – Fuck You, President

Once I read the title of this event, I thought this is what I am writing about, because while pupu-caca orange racist Trump is in the White House, I’ll be promoting anything that’s against his ass. The Dauphine of Bushwick X Wise Men are bringing back Baby Tea. It’s not like the party went away for too long, but I appreciate that the event is also an anti-Trump protest. I think protests should be a party, it just makes everything we are fighting for a bit more relaxing. I am not sure what they have planned for this edition of the party — and I don’t feel like contacting Tyler Ashley to ask (we have faith he’ll bring it as he always does). I’d say bring some anti-Trump protest signs — protest signs make you look even better in photos; it shows you care about real issues, I mean I hope you really care. Music is by Merrie Cherry and Zenobia (Jackson Teague) and photos for the night are by Gypsy Hill. Not sure why I am listing those two together, but it makes sense in my head.

FREE, 8:00PM-12:00AM, WISE MEN, 355 BOWERY NY, NY.

Party: Gayletter & Eastern Bloc Present: Interracial No. 25 – A fundraiser to benefit the ACLU

Wow INTERRACIAL is back! It’s been a while since we did the last party. I remember the last time was for Halloween. Some trolls came strong on Twitter calling us racist, etc… I mean I am from Dominican Republic and Tom is from Australia, so we created this party a few years ago as a celebration of being different races. If those people would’ve done their research then they wouldn’t be talking out of their asses, saying we were “fetishizing” guys who are interracial. This edition of Interracial is particularly special to us, not only because we are bringing it back to Eastern Bloc — the venue where we did our first Interracial many year’s back—but also because it’s a fundraiser to benefit the ACLU. Given the state of this country (with pupu-caca-Trump in the White House), we must do everything we can to fight for a better America. The event is hosted by GAYLETTER which is me and my partnerinti Tom Jackson, along with Stephanie Stone, Ms. Ter, B. Hollywood and Shiny Penny. Music will be provided by Darren Dryden and Tom Jackson (I hope he’s ready). There’s also a special performance by Will Sheridan. Come say hi, it will be cute, casual and cunt.

$5, 10:30PM, EASTERN BLOC, 505 E 6TH ST. NY, NY.

Party: Powerhouse Sean B. & Tad Haes co-hosted by GAYLETTER

We love love love this space. Analog BKNY is kind of in the middle of nowhere, but maybe that’s just because we live in Manhattan. If you live in BK, it’s probably not that big of a deal, lol. It’s a really cool, open space with an amazing sound system. It kind of feels like a club in Wynwood in Miami or in Los Angeles. We’re gonna be co-hosting the evening with a bunch of other queens. We suggest you grab a ticket now while they’re cheap (only $8, click here for tickets). Music for the night is by Sean B. (Spank / Xanadude) and Tad Haes (Occupy the Disco / Paradisco). Visual stimulants for the night are provided by Deputy. Expect lots of dancing, carrying, kiking, poppers etc. This is a gay, gay, gay party for people who like to get sweaty and dance. Bring your friends — You’ll have a ball. We promise.

Art: Tales of Our Time

I had the pleasure of wandering around the Guggenheim earlier this week to enjoy this new show featuring art by Chinese modern artists. Called Tales of Our Time — it features many video pieces that are meant to challenge the conventional idea of “place.” The show includes artists’ Chia-En Jao, Kan Xuan, Sun Xun, Sun Yuan & Peng Yu, Tsang Kin-Wah, Yangjiang Group and Zhou Tao. While the often dreamy video pieces are well worth seeing the real winner of this show is the giant robotic sculpture that takes up a whole room for itself. It’s basically a massive industrial robot arm equipped with a squeegee. “Programmed by the Beijing artists Sun Yuan and Peng Yu, a husband-and-wife duo with a reputation as Chinese enfants terribles, the robot mops up liquid, with the viscosity of molasses and the color of blood, according to a set of rules: When a sensor detects that the liquid has flowed past a certain boundary, the robotic arm swoops down and cleans it up off the floor, and splashes the white gallery walls with the red fluid, like in a slasher film.” It’s an amazing sight to see. It’s both mesmerizing and menacing. It contrasts dramatically to the rest of the art in the museum’s collection. If you find yourself on the upper east side, check out Tales of Our Time before it closes.

$25, 10:00am-5:45pm, Guggenheim Museum, 1071 5th Ave. NY, NY.

Event: RESISTANCE PARTY – QUEER BLOC

I was watching PWR BTTM’s new video and as usual it was queer as all hell. It got me thinking a lot about queer spaces and how having fun in the winter can be hard because you’re carrying, but also literally carrying a coat, which is not cute. Just last week, I was at a party where Abi was feeling himself and touched a stranger’s faux-fur. I’m won’t name the victim, but my point is that coats can be fun, but without one you can overdose on glitter and that’s more fun. The Footlight is having their first monthly queer party and they asking you to “glitter up or die.” The theme is Anti-Valentine’s (amen) and they note they “will party hard in the name of resistance against the capitalist machine that forces us to fall for this bullshit concept of what is love in relation to mula!” Maybe glitter up or die is an extremity, but desperate times call for desperate measures, and if you want looks to be brought, ultimatums are key. People are protesting President Dump every week, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that some have been arrested, and legal fees are nuts, so this party is raising funds to help them out. “LET’S DANCE FOR OUR LIVES AND LIBERATION OF ALL PEOPLE. We will rise above our oppression in the outside world and unite this space where radiance and true love always prevail.” I’m with them on that one!

$5-$10, 8:00PM-2:00AM, THE FOOTLIGHT, 465 Seneca Ave. Ridgewood, NY.

Art: Visionaire Presents Toiletpaper’s Paradise

This sounds like a fascinating exhibition. Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari’s ‘more is more’ installation is an interactive immersion into Toiletpaper magazine’s wild aesthetic. Through psychedelic reimagined domestic settings, the exhibition reveals vibrant vignettes featuring Toiletpaper’s art and product collaborations all stacked, layered, and pastiched. Attendees are invited to touch, play, move, sit, recline, and position themselves in the physical manifestation of the minds of the artists. Some areas, best described as Mad Men on acid, includes a mock headstone that reads ‘The End’. Lounge and bedroom are subverted living areas full of absurd possibilities and combinations. Interspersed among all the high-impact accessories are a few standout pieces imagined by Toiletpaper and produced by Gufram, as well as homeware produced by Seletti customized by TOILETPAPER’s founders with their off-beat imagery.” Cadillac House is where we saw the Palomo Spain fashion show last week. It’s a very clean, new space that has something (I’m not quite sure what) to do with the car company Cadillac. Regardless, for fans of either ToiletPaper or Visionaire, this is a must-do exhibition. It’s happening from now until Feb 22nd.

FREE, 7:00PM, Cadillac House, 330 Hudson St. NY, NY.
