THE WEEK 5/12-5/18
A guide for Artsluts
Hello, lovers. We’ve got another week filled with happening happenings where you can live, laugh, dance, fuck, explore, create and get inspired. LICK IT UP, BABY.
Enjoy Michael Magnan‘s Vena Cava Slice Up mix (for Safe House USA) while you read.
MONDAY 5/12
HOT FRUIT @ METROPOLITAN (559 LORIMER ST.) Start your week off right with the cutest, artiest, queerest queers in Brooklyn! Qhoiyn, Momo Shade and Mr(s) Williamsburg‘s winner Aja perform at midnight, David Sokolowski and Econ DJ all night, Ethan Weinstock’s video art trips you out and Tinker Coalescing captures all your beautiful faces. 10:00PM, FREE!
BATHSALTS @ DON PEDRO (90 MANHATTAN AVE.) Now that Night of 1000 Stevies has come and gone, embroidered shawl twisting in the breeze as it goes, its time to celebrate Fleetwood Mac’s other lady, Christene McVie. Macy Rodman and friends will be honoring the “Songbird” all night. This edition of Bathsalts will also serve as Charlene’s brithday party, so come pay respects to the real queen of Brooklyn — and maybe give her a few birthday spankings. 9:00PM, FREE!
TUESDAY 5/13
FOOD CHAIN @ LESLIE LOHMAN MUSEUM (26 WOOSTER ST.) Slava Mogutin reads from his first book in English, Food Chain, published by the Brooklyn-based ITNA Press. Part memoir, part political satire, part magic realism, the book presents a scope of texts from Mogutin’s early poems to his latest writings, dubbed by the recent Russian anti-gay law as “homosexual propaganda.” 6:00PM, FREE!
GAY VINYL @ HOME SWEET HOME (131 CHRYSTIE ST.) Whether or not you actually wear a bra, we can all relate to the need to take it off and break free of the patriarchy. DJs Lafawndah Lafawndah and Sadaf will spin you into queer utopia with cheap drink and beautiful people all night long. 11:00PM, FREE!
WEDNESDAY 5/14
REHEARSAL @ CAGE (83 HESTER ST.) A performance by the spiritual guide Archangel Gabriel channeled through the human vessel, Alex Rodabaugh. g1br33l receives messages from the universe, often through the Internet, and must share these messages through performance in order to help along the coming transition from the current dystopic reality to a prophesized Golden Age of humanity. Dancers: Rebecca Hadley, Ashley Handel, Suzzanne Ponomarenko, Justin Rivera, David Serotte. Channeling by: Craig u.v. Cady. Music by: Andy Kuncl. 8:00PM, FREE!
THURSDAY 5/15
MIX’S NAKED EYE KICKOFF @ THE SLIPPER ROOM (167 ORCHARD ST.) Our beloved experimental queer film festival has already begun gearing up for this fall’s extravaganza and they need some cash to get things moving… So they’re auctioning off these really cool disposable cameras that have been living with a bunch of queerdo-friendly celebrities like James Franco (we’ve got our fingers crossed for a dick pic), plus they’ll be performances by a bunch of fabulous cabaret artists including Xavier Smith and Machine Dazzle. 7:00PM, $25.
FRIDAY 5/16
WHITE DIAMONDS @ BIZARRE (12 JEFFERSON ST.) This cute dance party celebrates it’s first anniversary with DJs Jessamess, self help, Trey LaTrash and Mikey Pop. Untitled Queen MCs and a plethora of hosts will be getting their lovely faces photographed by Tinker Coalescing. 10:00PM, FREE!
LIQUID LOVE @ SECRET BROOKLYN LOFT (LOCATION TBA) OH FUCK YES! Our favorite underground, mixed dance party is back and we could not be happier. This loft party features some of the most amazing music you’ll hear at any party in NYC— we’re not exaggerating, it’s that good. At last month’s LL we were dancing all night and well into the morning, so if you’re looking for an after-hours situation, this is where you need to be. The sisters of Analog Soul, Dat Kat and Jacky Sommer, are joined by Native Racket and will spin you into another galaxy. Email liquidlove411@gmail.com the day of the party to receive the address. This is a mixed party so we suggest you BYOF — Bring Your Own Faggot. 10:00PM, FREE BEFORE MIDNIGHT/$10 AFTER.
