Party: POP GOES THE CATWALK!

This letter is kind of heavy on parties at clubs you’d usually avoid (see Sunday). But the fact is, when you have people like Susanne Bartsch (pictured) running the show, it’s hard to resist. Catwalk is a party Susanne has been throwing at Marquee for a few months now. Marquee is one of those LA type clubs with multiple floors, bottle service and a giant thumping dancefloor. It’s not like you’re totally transported just because Susanne’s crew is there, but it certainly does help. For starters when Susanne is in the house things like a House of Ninja Vogue Off hosted by Icona Pop happen. Then you get DJ’s like the incredibly talented Honey Dijon and W. Jeremy spinning tracks all night long. You also get a bunch of living art, and video art and all manner of colorful hosts. Susanne will gay the fuck out of that place so much you may for a moment forget it’s the same place Justin Bieber (how old is he?) was somehow allowed to hang out at couple of months ago.

FREE, 11:00PM, Marquee New York, 289 10th Ave. NY, NY.

THE NYABF 2013 PREVIEW AFTER PARTY

Presented by GAYLETTER, 'SUP and PIN-UP Magazine

Sunday 09.22.13

Party: Move to Love

I’ve spent the last two weekends working so the whole concept of a “school” night has quickly evaporated, which is why I’m all for this new monthly dance party happening this Sunday night. I once had a boss who told me to never waste a sick day being sick. I think the same goes for hangovers — you might as well suffer through them at work, better than wasting a Saturday on the couch...That being said the hosts of this party THESWIMINGPOOLS have set fairly sober start and finish times: it all kicks off at 7pm and ends at midnight. Don’t go overboard on the vodka sodas and you might actually wake up on Monday with a clear-ish head. There’s going to be performances at 9 and 11pm, during which the doors will be closed — so get there at the right time. It’s downstairs at ACME on Great Jones St., which is a pretty cool space; it’s dark, long and filled with leather banquets to lounge about on. I’m assuming they’ll clear the tables so people can have a boogie. I’m hoping my schedule clears up a bit so I can attend, after the last two weeks I could use some dancefloor release!

FREE, 7:00pm-12:00am, Acme, 9 Great Jones St. NY, NY.

Party: JIZZ

Josh Sparber (pictured) used to throw a weekly Wednesday party at Eastern Bloc called Good Times, and on the couple of occasions I attended I ended up completely wasted. I mean I really had a good time dancing and drinking to his music. He really knows how to keep the homos moving, that’s probably why his monthly party Jizz, at Metropolitan, is still going strong after about a year now. I chatted with Anthony DiCap (who DJs with Josh and co-produces the party) to find out more: “the party is rap/hip-hop, reggae, club, juke, house music...We’re pretty much the only gay party that plays mostly hip hop.” Josh and Anthony are the resident DJs of Jizz but they always bring a guest, this time it’s Robert Jeffrey (Vienetta Discotheque) from San Francisco. I love cheap local gay bars, they’re the best places to let loose, and you know you’re always getting your money’s worth. Go and get that jizz.

FREE, 10:00PM, METROPOLITAN BAR, 559 Lorimer St. , Brooklyn, NY

Party: New York Art Book Fair 2013 After Party

We love printed matter of all kinds: magazines, books, posters, all of it. Which is why the New York Art Book Fair (put on by the aptly titled Printed Matter) is one of our must-attend events each year. It has like a gazillion vendors from all sorts of galleries and independent publishing companies. This year GAYLETTER, along with ‘SUP and our fav architecture magazine PIN-UP is presenting the official preview after party, and guess what? You’re all invited! It’s going be a wonderful night, filled with all sorts of arty people, and those with an all consuming interest in printed materials. It’s hosted by Bolon by VIIIR, Printed Matter Inc. and Wild Life Press. It’s also the official launch for a new book: Fabulousity which is “an exhibition catalogue showcasing the previously unseen photographs taken by Alexis Dibiasio during the late 1980’s and early 1990’s of the New York Club Kids.” Michael Magnan is Djing the party, we’ll be there drinking, talking shit, twerking, the usual GAYLETTER M.O. Come stop by and have a kiki with us, it’s going to be marvelous.

Party: FUCK! RAGE! ALWAYS! TURNT! (F.R.A.T)

Richard Kennedy (pictured) is one of those boys we always see out and about on the town, usually at some fashion party, usually drunk (us, prolly him too). He’s always super nice, I think he works in “the industry”, but he doesn’t act like one of “those” boys, even though he looks like one (head to toe in black designer clothes.) He has a good attitude. Which we like. So we were happy to recommend his new party F.R.A.T (love the name.) It’s a big event, lots of DJs: Le1f, Rizzla, Schwarz, Mop Top and DJ New Jersey Drone. There’s live performances by: Abdu Ali and Dick Van Dick, visuals and like 12 hosts. He’s throwing it with his friend Whatever 21 (another great name...these boys) and it sounds like it’s gonna be a late one. It’s a F.R.A.T party so we’re promised plenty of keg stands, beer pong, hot sluts and ass slaps. I don’t know why frats get such a bad name, from what I can tell from the info on this party and that frat website Hazehim.com they sound like a lot of fun.

$10 before midnight, 10:00PM, Steel Drums, 35 Beadel St., BK, NY

Party: PUSSY FAGGOT – What I Did Last Summer…

Pussy Faggot is BAAAAACK! Celebrating the end of summer and all things pussy and faggot, it’s a jam packed night with more performers than you’ve had one night stands (slut). The night starts at 8pm with the Bureau of General Services-Queer Division (BGSQD) reading featuring Ariel Speedwagon, Chavisa Woods, Justin Sayre and poet Bobby Miller in his “first NYC performance in 7 years!” Then at 9pm there’s an open vodka bar for one hour. From 10pm till late you’ll be showered with performer after performer from both NYC and a couple from Australia. It’s a long list of peeps so I will be judicious and just give you the names of the ones I’m most excited to see. Shane Shane, Justin Shoulder and Tyler Ashley are famous for their weird and wonderful performances. Then there’s the colorful drag queen, Mss Vee who I’m excited to see live for the first time. Lastly I’ll mention Angelica M. Rodriguez, because she’s the reigning Miss Lez (trust me they don’t hand out that award to just any old carpet muncher!) Penny Arcade is MCing for the evening again. It’ll be a cute night, there will be plenty of cute arty queer boys, cheap drinks, amazing performances, you’ll love it, promise.

$10/$6 With RSVP, 10:00PM, The Delancey, 168 Delancey St. NY, NY.

Party: Horse Meat Disco

Yaaaaaaay, It’s a loooooong weekend and those of us that usually have to work on Mondays can go out this Sunday and actually get wild. I know some of you don’t need encouragement but we always like to remind our readers that it’s OK to slut it up. This Labor Day weekend Horse Meat Disco is back: “join Europe’s top disco collective as they return for their annual Labor Day Sunday NYC bash.” For some weird reason homos that love having long conversations in the locker rooms at the gym also love this party, it’s a strange thing but on more than 3 occasions I’ve overheard it being discussed in the wet area...I just thought I’d share that with you...For this edition of Horse Meat we can expect an “opening set” by Spank DJs: Sean B. and Will Automagic. It’s presented by Josh Wood, and hosted by Marco Ovando, Occupy The Disco and Cameron Cooper. Because it’s a holiday weekend, expect all sorts of men at this event, from muscle queens, to boys with just the right amount of muscles, to skinny boys with no interest in muscles, to Brooklyn whores, to downtown sluts, and probably some easy tourists, this is one of those busy weekends where finding cock is easier than making fun of Miley Cyrus.

$15 Online, $25 Door, 11:00PM, Cielo, 18 Little West 12th St., NY, NY

Party: Sex On The Beach 3

This is the real deal; a proper beach party with sand and water and speakers and booze and sand and did I mention the water? Get drunk, go for a swim, try not to drown and ruin everyone else’s day. We are the worst at making weekend plans (ironic, I know) so while everyone else is in P-Town or Fire Island or wherever the hell else faggots vacay these days, we’ll be 45 mins from downtown Manhattan at Rockaway beach. Granted when you say it like that it doesn’t sound so glamorous, but the spot was picked cos as the organizers like to say“no one wants to go on a ratchet journey.” So here’s the plan: “Take the A train to Rockaway Blvd. When you are off the train you will call our number 917.592.2158 to be picked up by our shuttle.” It’s hosted by Jay Anthony (JaySauce) and RobotMoon Juice (who’ll also be making a special appearance from out of the water). Look out for Abi and I, he’ll be wearing a Versace g-string and I’ll be in full body hijab #whitepeopleproblems!

$5 ladies/$10 men, 6:30PM, Exit at Rockaway Blvd. Call for shuttle bus, Qns, NY.

Party: Shock Value

This is a very Vfiles kind of party. Here are my hashtags to describe it: #90s #Digital #Brightgraphics #Lasers #OutfitsInspiredByWillowSmithsInstagramAccount. On stage will be a live performances by Lafem Ladosha, Dick Van Dick and someone/something called Invitation to a Beheading. Music is by Le1F and HD with Dan2600 & Romcom playing downstairs. There’s gonna be visuals and brightly dressed hosts and probably plenty of cute skinny boys doing Molly. Honestly it sounds amazing. I don’t want to blab on about this party cos it’s pretty straightforward: just show up, have fun, Vine, Instagram, tweet and Tumblr it. How will you know you had fun if every single second of it isn’t recorded?

Free before 12:00am/$5 after, 10:00PM, Leftfield, 87 Ludlow St. NY, NY.
