Party: RAZOR 5,000

Whenever I feel sad I just go on Instagram and look through Rihanna’s profile. The photos that crazy bitch posts make me so happy. I’m convinced she is the reason over 50% of America now supports marijuana legalization — she literally does nothing else but wear denim tank tops and smoke joints. I want her life. Razor 5,000 is both a Brooklyn Pride party and also a celebration of the queen of “ice-blue emotion, tragic and fierce realness, and extreme, shattering, HOTTNESSSSSSSSS.” (They’re talking about RiRi). Presented by Horrorchata and hosted by Merrie Cherry, there’s like 5 DJ’s and 12 live performers, a Rihanna Look$ Contest, nail art, and a whole bunch of give-aways. Shiiiit, this party is so popping Rihanna might even show up, bitch has been known to do crazy shit. #Barbados #420 #denimondenim #bushwig #drag #trans #dance #nyc #bushwick #Ltrain #dressup #sweat #boo #lips #queer #gay #house #face

Party: SWOON

I just heard about this new mixed party in the BK — Swoon. It seems that David Sokolowski (the party’s promoter) is like a big Brooklyn party whore, he’s just creating one party after another. He told me Sugarland approached me about doing a monthly, and it’s launching this Friday.” You know we are right on these new parties — someone’s got to keep you bitches informed. He also told me to expect “six incredibly talented and gorgeous go-go dancers, high energy live performance & live mixed House/Disco/Hip Hop on vinyl all night.” RobotMoon Juice is also performing. Lots of other people are involved including: Fatha Green, JLamar, Whitney Weiss and more. David told us that the party is called Swoon because it’s going to be a high energy thing and “you’ll probably faint if you watch the dancers for too long.” There you have it, a new night at Sugarland, go check it out, what have you got to lose?

$5, 10PM, SUGARLAND, 221 N 9th St. BK, NY.

Magical moments from the Memorial Day Weekend party at the House of Yes...

Party: THE CARRY NATION – MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

Last year we did some serious carrying at The Carry Nation. If you’re nervous about your ability to carry, have a few drinks, or some drugs, it might help you carry better. The reason I bring this up is because if you want to see us carrying, and to carry with us you should come to this year’s Carry Nation, because as guest host that’s all we’ll be doing. The party is to celebrate their one year anniversary. Djs include: The Carry Nation, Sean B., Jools Palmer + Mandy Graves, Ryan Smith + Ron Like Hell (Wrecked). One thing at this party, that I’m most excited about is the light show that Seva Granik is going to create. I’ve seen his lights before, and they’re just mesmerizing, you could spend hours looking at all the beautiful geometric shapes and colors they produce (especially if you are high). Last time I saw them I went into an Instagram frenzy photographing all those lights. There was just sooo much carrying, I nearly got carried out the door.

$10, 10PM, HOUSE OF YES, 342 Maujer St. BK, NY.

The Man Behind The Lights

We’ve seen Seva Granik out and about for a couple years now. We knew he was involved in nightlife in many  ways; from promoting his own parties, to dating Ladyfag to drinking lots of vodka. The coolest thing about Seva is he attends more queer events than any other straight man we know. He’s also one talented light projectionist.

Last year we saw Seva in action, projecting his amazing laser lights at several events. Stoned, his light shows are about the geratest thing you’ve ever witnessed—stoned cold sober they’re also pretty special. If you’re interested in seeing them for yourself, come to The Carry Nation this Saturday. Seva will be projecting lights until dawn.

—–

How do you describe your lights project? I run a boutique agency that aims to not just produce, but also complement events of various kind with creative and unusual lighting.

When and how did you learn to do it? I got into special effects and lighting through my own events, actually, while seeking out, procuring or producing interesting lighting for my own parties.

How long have you been doing it for? I’ve been doing it for about 8 years now, and the goal was always to stand out and do something special, so eventually it made more sense to just do things myself.

Are these lights expensive? Most of the effects and solutions that I work with are uncomplicated and cost-effective, but there are a few Swiss-made high-power laser units that at one point had cost me most of my life savings; some of these things are definitely very pricey. …

Party: SPANK + MIDNIGHT MAGIC + SLOW NIGHTS

You know what we haven’t done in a while? Gone to a Spank party. Honestly, it feels like years since we’ve pulled an all-nighter at one of their thumping Brooklyn shindigs. Luck for us this Saturday’s Spank party is one hell of a welcome back. It features the usual Spank DJs: Sean B. and Will Automagic, plus performances by Midnight Magic — a nine person ensemble that bills themselves as “the secret love children of Donna Summer and George Clinton.” Continuing the fun is Slow Knights, the brainchild of Scissor Sisters lead guitarist Del Marquis. It’s a jam-packed night, which like all Spank parties won’t end until your feet are bloody and you’ve made out with everyone with a first name. Yes kweeeeen!

$15 BEFOREHAND, $20 AT DOOR, 10PM, MUSIC HALL OF WILLIAMSBURG, 66 N 6TH ST. BK, NY.

Party: DIRTY LOOKS – SLEEP AWAY CAMP DANCEPARTIE

Last year Bradford Nordeen (creator of the film series Dirty Looks) put on his first Dirty Looks: On Location. It was an amazing two week long series that took Bradford’s favorite films to locations with queer history, throughout the city. Later this year Bradford is doing it all over again. Friday’s party is a benefit to raise some much needed funds to put on the 2013 series, and we suggest you all attend. Not just because Dirty Looks is an important queer film series that deserves your support, but also because this party is going to be more fun than running on an elipitical trainer next to Amanda Bynes. The theme of the event is “horror at sleep away camp.” You know, like that time at camp, when late at night all the other boys were touching wieners and they left you out. Oh the horror, the horror! Your freaky hosts for the night are: Chez Deep, Merrie Cherry, Gage Boone and Shadow Lover, plus there’s music by: AK Burns, Benjamin Haber, Chris Pappas and DJ Dirty Looks. The minimum donation to get in is $5, but there’s no maximum, so bring your checkbook and whichever sugar daddy is paying your rent this month.

$5-$20, 11pm, Don Pedro, 90 Manhattan Ave. BK, NY.

Earl’s Pussy Faggot

Producer and nightlife curator Earl Dax have been throwing his party Pussy Faggot! since 2009. It’s been a place where many artists and performers have the opportunity to showcase their art and express themselves freely. We’ve been fans of Earl’s drag personas for a while. As we learned Earl believes in the more the merrier when it comes to performers, he doesn’t have one drag persona, he has two, meet Enya Buttox and Indigo Earl.

Why did you decide to create a party called Pussy Faggot? How did you come up with the name? It was 2009, and I was looking for a venue to throw a benefit for the HOT! Festival. The Delancey turned out to be the best available option, but I hadn’t set foot in the place since the demise of UNISEX Salon, a weekly party I had thrown there in 2006/07. That party infamously came to an abrupt end during a contretemps with my co-promoter that ended with me in a fetal position on the floor of the bar where I was kicked three times, spat upon and called — you guessed it — a “pussy faggot!” Going back two years later was strange and surreal, and I wanted to acknowledge what had happened there.

How did people respond to the name Pussy Faggot? I was completely surprised by the response to the name. People loved it. I knew that it was provocative, but I didn’t fully understand that there are actually a lot of people who embrace the term, “pussy faggot.” …
