CDLP x Tom of Finland: a Jock Strap and a tank top

We visited the Tom of Finland Foundation in Los Angeles a couple of years back. Durk Dehner, the partner of the late Finnish artist, was a gracious host along with the rest of the Tom of Finland family. On the last day there, we decided on a whim to go to a Dolly Parton concert at the Hollywood Bowl. It was late November so the temperature that night was a tad brisk for L.A. While we would have probably been fine without jackets, we thought it’ll better to be safe. Durk was kind enough to suggest we take leather jackets from his closet. Being at the T.O.F. house we knew we were in good hands when it came to leather. From a seemingly never-ending selection of jackets we both made our selections. I pulled a leather vest and Abi a classic biker jacket. They were the perfect accessories for a Dolly Parton concert under the stars, and we couldn’t have been more comfortable. All this is a long way of saying that when it comes to a good fit, the Tom of Finland team knows what they’re doing.

In celebration of their 2020 centennial, the Tom of Finland Foundation collaborated with the Stockholm based underwear brand CDLP on a capsule collection. The collection consists of a jock strap and a tank top. We shot the two pieces recently on the Colombian model Jose Rico. He found them to be super soft and comfortable, just as expected.

CDLP creative director Christian Larson had this to say about the collaboration. “Envisaged from depictions in Tom’s work…The Tank Top, crafted in lyocell is inspired by a graphite on paper original, Untitled, created in 1986, and features custom ’Tom 1986’ embroidery detail at the hem. The Jock Strap, crafted in lyocell is inspired by a graphite on paper original, Untitled, produced in 1961. This piece was not signed with year of production, therefore the custom embroidery featured at waistband is simply ‘Tom’.”

The pieces come in custom packaging with the inside boxes lined with some of Tom’s most sensuous, iconic work. The collaboration is available at CDLP, the Tom of Finland Store / CultureEdit and the VooStore in Berlin.
