Party like it’s Tuesday

Introducing SIDESHOW, a new Brooklyn party by The Culture Whore

The great thing about New York City nightlife is that new parties pop up all the time, it’s a city that works very hard at keeping things fun and exciting. A promising new party starts this Tuesday, May 20th in Brooklyn described as a “night of freaks and additives.” It’s called SIDESHOW and is brought to us by The Culture Whore. They tell us that they chose that name for the party because they “love the idea of owning the fact that we are freaks — a freak show of queers
…Being a freak means that one is unable to fit into the grid of normal society. Freaks are embodiments of chaos. They deal with the ugly, the dangerous, the taboo. They are the outliers of humanity guiding the path towards evolution.”

Paul Leopold who’s one of the organizer told me that they are hoping to fill the venue Friends and Lovers in Crown Heights with “eclectic acts, or queerdos, who will make you sweat, laugh and cry while being surrounded by the happiest and friendliest crowd in NYC.”  He adds that the space is “super cute with a big stage and awesome sound system.” There are too many people involved in this party for me to list (if you are throwing a party in 2014, you need at least 25 people hosting.)

The party is also the launch for ARTSLUT, “a zine for Culture Whores by Mark Dommu & Friends.”

Expect a night of “horrors and wonders, mutants and magicians, delights and subversions and  more bearded ladies than you could possibly imagine…” Alright, got it! …

Party: PUSSY FAGGOT 5 ANNIVERSARY

Our little Pussy Faggot is all grown up! I can hardly believe it’s been 5 years since the nightlife producer Earl Dax started his eponymous performance party series featuring some of downtown New York’s most talented, unique and hilarious pussies and faggots. To celebrate the anniversary Earl has asked the one and only Penny Arcade to host the event (I mean, who else are you going to ask?). Get there at 8:00pm if you don’t want to miss the first performer, Jill Pangallo (directed by the super talented Mike Albo), but whatever you do, don’t miss the open vodka bar from 9-10pm. There’s all the usual suspects performing throughout the night: Merrie Cherry, Max Steele, Tyler Ashley, Needles Jones, Justin Sayre, Joey Arias plus a few new names (to me at least): Sequinette, Santiago Venegas, The Unicordion, Raul de Nieves. It’s going to be a wild night, but a special one, so don’t let any pussies or faggots get in your way. Be there!

$5 advance/$10 at door, 8pm, 8:00PM-4:00AM, The Delancey, 168 Delancey St. NY, NY.

Party: White Diamonds One Year Anniversary

This seems to be the week of anniversary parties (See Sunday). So what should you expect from the White Diamonds one year anniversary party? Well first up, the dress code is all white, which I’m really into at the moment. I can see why religious nuts, brides and cults get into white — there’s something very clean and fresh about white, it feels nice to wear. However going to a sweaty dance party full of sloppy drunks in white might not be the best idea. But hey, most gays have white sheets, and we all know that can be a disaster. But back to the party. There’s two dance floors of music with DJs Jessamess, self help, Trey LaTrash and Mikey Pop. Merrie Cherry is hosting along with Lucy Balls, Timothy David Slaght and Meghan Louttit. There’s going to be drink specials and plenty of BK kids making the most of their ever fleeting youth. It’ll be cute. Shine bright like a white diamond hunty.

FREE, 10:00PM, Bizarre Bushwick, 12 JEFFERSON ST. Brooklyn, NY.

Party: DANDY/ETTE

We went to this party in 2013 when it was on at The Manderley Bar and we had a very dandy experience. This year the party is moving to a new location, Madame X. According to the organizers they choose spaces that encourage a theatrical experience and “evoke a sense of glamour and time travel” which is appropriate for a 1920’s inspired event that’s usually attended by “dandies, dykes, pansys, fops” and more... Emily Hall Smith (one of the organizers) broke down the name of the party for us, “The Dandy is a historical term that represents first and foremost someone who was particularly concerned with their sartorial image and simply being well-dressed. Over time the term also came to have other varied connotations including having a queer identity, a dignified nature, or a misanthropic nature. Dandyism typically refers to men and a male fashion sense, but because Hot Rabbit parties are always pangender, I expanded the name to Dandy/ette to imply a less strict interpretation of what a Dandy or a Dandyette might look like.” Music is by DJ M.O., Average Jo and there’s an interactive dance performance and “gay ghost sexiness” by the Haus of Sweat and the Sisters of Ritual. There’s also a drink special until 9:00PM — the first 100 guests get a free Grey Goose cocktail. Dress up, get loose!

$5/$8, 8:00PM-2:00AM, Madame X, 94 West Houston St. NY, NY.

Tom of Finland’s Birthday hosted by Brent Corrigan

The celebration took place at the Tom of Finland Foundation in Los Angeles

Party: SPANK – Illuminate

I have to tell you about this Saturday’s Spank party for a couple of reasons. Firstly our buddy (who loves getting naked) Gio Black Peter is hosting, so I know it’s going to be super fun. And secondly because it’s at  Drom, which is literally 3 streets away from where I live. If I get too fucked up it really wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to ask someone to carry me home. Music, as per usual, is by Sean B. and Will Automagic. Plus, an installation by Jeffrey Owen Ralston and visuals by Big Art Group. There’s also going to be a performance by Bright Light Bright Light (no you’re not having a stroke his name does repeat, pictured) His music is very upbeat, dance-y, similar to the Pet Shop Boys — it kind of makes you want to be on molly. It all starts at 11:00PM and goes till 4:00AM. It’s 15 bucks to get in or $10 in advance, but trust me it’ll be worth it. The boys who throw this thing don’t mess about. You WILL have happy (but sore) feet on Sunday.

$15, 11:00PM, Drom, 85 Ave A. New York, NY.

Party: Camp ShareGurl 2014

We are all so over this NYC weather, a 7-month winter is just not cool — I hate it. Part of the reason lots of gay people in NYC want it to get hotter is so they can go slut it up in Fire Island. So basically this party is like Fire Island, but in the city and with bad weather and no beaches.... But trust me, it’s gonna be fun. The main reason to go is to see one of our favorite queens from this season of Rupaul's Drag Race, Milk (pictured). She’s assuming duties as the party’s “Camp Director.” Music is by DJs Vito Fun, Kevin Graves and the Camp ShareGurl staff. There’s also a pretend “Meat Rack” after party on the rooftop with music by Occupy the Disco. Other people involved in the party are Vichelle Massage, BOFFO, Blackie O, Tina Burner, Markus and Mark Fisher Fitness. The party is also the perfect opportunity to meet guys who are likely getting shares in Fire Island this summer and if you’re sweet enough they might invite you. Turn up that charm slut!

FREE, 8:00PM, HUDSON TERRACE, 621 West 46th St. New York, NY.

The 17th annual event presented by Paper and DKNY at Up & Down

Party: BRÜT

The dudes behind this newish (it started last July) monthly party (DJ Dan Darlington and DJ Peter Napoli) decided to name it ‘Brüt’ because they wanted a name that sounded like a tagline for “an underground German sleaze party — it needed to be masculine, tough, and sexy.” I think it’s a wonderful name. It reminds me of champagne and that old school cologne that my grandpa used to wear. It’s all going down at Santos Party House which means it’s gonna be a long, hot, dance-y night — call whoever you need to call to get you hooked up for the evening. Music is By Dan and Peter and guest DJ Ryan Smith (Wrecked) and hosts for the night are Chris Roberts, David Monberg, Alex Brousset, Chris Miklos and Renato Barucco. I don't know all of these guys, but I’m sure they’re lovely people. Saturday is looking to be a very nice day (weather wise at least) so get there early and stay late, late, late. “Men, Dirty beats, Gogo dancers, Low lit basement, Non-stop dancing, Sweaty good times…” It’s a sluts paradise!

$15 before midnight/$20 after, 10:00PM, Santos Party House, 96 Lafayette st. NY, NY.
