NYE NEW YORK CITY GUIDE 2015

2015 Sashay Away...

We hope you are ready to say goodbye to 2015 and hello to 2016! Yes queens it’s time for a whole new year. 2016 is gonna be all about Hilary and Rihanna’s new album, and Beyonce finally making an effort with her Instagram account and Seamless orders being delivered by drones, and Rupaul coming back, and dick buffets (more about this in 2016), and all sorts of other wonderful things. We figured we’d make this week’s GAYLETTER an all New Year’s Eve affair.

So please enjoy our selections for the last night of 2015 and the first morning of 2016. Happy New Year!

Also enjoy some of our favorite selfie images from some of the GAYLETTER Selfie stories we published throughout 2015 above each write up.

Party: Legendary

Anytime Joey Labeija (pictured) DJs it’s L-E-G-E-N-D-A-R-Y. He played our pride party at the Wythe Hotel this July and it was fucking bananas how good he was. This Saturday is your chance to show some love to Joey and also wish him happy birthday. To help celebrate you can also expect music by Joey along with Le1f, Abby, and Juliana Huxtable. I love how parties are starting later, and later these days, it’s very Spanish of NYC to open the doors at midnight like this one. I mean, nothing really happens at a party before then anyways, so might as well just turn up when it’s time to turn up. This will be the first time this party has taken place at its new location on North 3rd. From what I could tell from a quick google search of the venue it looks like a cool space, with plenty of room for dancing. Which is exactly what we expect you to do. I mean it’s Joey’s birthday, and only a few days before the holiday break, don’t let it be anything but legendary!

$10, 12 AM, LA SALSA AT CANTINA ROYAL, 58 North 3rd St. Brooklyn, NY.

Party: HUMP

A brand new party always gets us excited! It’s the reason why we started GAYLETTER — to give us new things to do each week. This week we want to introduce you to HUMP, a new bi monthly affair starting this wednesday, December 16th! The party is presented by two lovely people, Hannah Shoshana Fisher & Paul Iacono. I reached out to Paul and he told me how this party came about: “Hosting nightlife can be a lot of fun but having grown up in the arts my heart has always been in creating. So when Shoshana approached me about the Wyndham Garden in Chinatown, I thought: How deliciously random!  We assembled a magpie ensemble of our favorite nightlife aficionados: Half fresh meat, half veterans, but all from very different niches. The result is HUMP. The evening guarantees opulence, vulgarity and (obviously, because it's me) a dollop of theatrics in the heart of Chinatown.”  For the first week the hosts are Max Ryder, Jacob Brown, Sussi Suss and Slayme Pineshouse, graphics by Nikki Mirsaeid, and music for the night will be provided by DJ Michael Cavadias and DJ DJ DeSe.  It sounds like they are all very excited, I can’t wait to go check it out. It’s so close to me I can crawl back home if I get too drunk. Which is very likely.

FREE, 10:00PM, Wyndham Garden Chinatown, 93 Bowery NY, NY.

Party: Easternbloc 10th Year Anniversary

When I first visited NYC in 2002 I meet these two guys on the platform at Union Square station. I was trying to get directions to a gay bar (I can’t remember which one). When I told them the name that said “oh you don’t want to go there.” Instead they took me to a bar which until today I thought was Eastern Bloc. Turns out E.B. is turning 10, meaning it wasn’t around in 2002. The reason I conflated the two was because the bar the queens took me too was dark and sexy and one of the highlights of my trip. Having moved here in 2007 Eastern bloc has been my second home. It’s run by the adorable Darren Dryden (pictured), who is sucsh a doll that he’s using the bar’s 10th year anniversary party as a way to raise money for the Colombia University Hospital Children’s Cancer Ward. Darren has plenty in store for the night. Music is by Andy Cohen (yes that one!), Austin Downey, Sammy Jo, Frankie Sharp, Darren Dryden and Michel T. There’s also going to be shows by Misstress Formika, Hattie Hathaway, Stephanie Stone, Bobbie and Severely Mame. Bring your coins for the kids and don’t make any other plans for the night! Umm Ok!

Free, 10:00 PM, Easternbloc, 505 E. 6th St New York, NY.

Party: Ruffhouse- Long John

The other day two of my friends came over to watch TV with me and when the first one arrived (William) he was like “oh those are interesting pants,” referring to my long johns. I was like yeah they are old, they are comfortable. Also, I like being warm at home in the winter. The second friend (Christy) arrived and of course brought more shade. I had a mind to tell him that they were vintage McQueen because he loves a label, but the only problem is that he also has good taste, and I knew no label was gonna save these johns, they were red, with some sort of dumb design pattern that kind of looked like fake McQueen, but they were not right, they were H&M. I trashed them during my hangover the next morning. Now I kind of wish I would’ve kept them so I could have worn them to this party. At least I would’ve stood out... This party Ruffhouse (hosted by Bryan Beretta and Brian Pizza, with music by EJack) encourages you to wear long johns, I think they can be kind of sexy especially if you can get a good ass silhouette and a nice front shape. The white thermal ones are the sexiest. Please don’t wear anything too over designed, if you don’t want those queens to grill you. “Strip down to your Long Johns and union suits for this edition of the always sexy RuffHouse...get your long underwear on and lose your inhibitions, it might be cold out but this one is gonna get HOT.”

FREE, 10:00 PM, NOWHERE BAR, 322 E 14th ST New York, NY.

Party: YOULOOKGOODEXTRAVAGANZA

I just watched the You Look Good music video and it’s so much fun, so many familiar faces, dancing all naked having a great time. Just made me wonder why don’t people take their clothes off more often and have these kinds of parties with their friends — dancing nude is so liberating. Tits, dicks and balls flopping around, it’s just so great. This is the official release party for Dalin’s video You Look Good. I’d recommend you to do your research about his music cause I am not writing a music review, but he is gonna be performing at this event! I am mainly writing this to tell you to go to this fun party. I have a feeling it’s gonna feel similar to the music video, but the only thing is they’ll have clothes on. Here’s the deal, “you are invited to step into our world of love, dance, celebration, and of course Music!!! Dalin is putting on big big show where anything could happen…” Lots of happy queer people with great energy involved in this event. Music and performances from Bridget Barkan, Asa Lovechild, Charlie Sheena, Rify Royalty, Shane O’neill, Elizabeth James, Machine Dazzle. DJs David Sokolowski and DJ Dandylion.“Bring your fantasies, your moves, your love, and your booty...” and your molly...

$8-$10, 8:00PM, C’mon Everydody, 325 Franklin Ave BK, NY.

The Party by OSTBAHNOF

Brooklyn's Newest Party is "Berlin Krass Meets New York Sass."

Hi, Hello! It’s Wednesday and there is a brand new party! It’s in Brooklyn, but get over it! We think this one is worth it.The Party by OSTBAHNHOF is an international party series inspired by the zero-fucks-given Berlin party and performance art scene. Resurrecting the prolific Vaudevillian/Cabaret acts of yesteryear combined with elements of rave culture (namely, really fucking good House music). The Party brings Berlin’s nightlife to NYC. Kicking off its U.S. premiere with an exclusive preview at Williamsburg’s venerable underground music spot Verboten. The inaugural night features the vile beauty of radical drag queen Olympia Bukkakis, the audio-visual kinetic sensations of BLÆNK MINDS, and much more.”

Verboten is cute, the bouncer there let me keep my fake i.d. a while back, which was nice, and I saw a lot of straight men later, but I digress… don’t be like me, bring proper identification! Buy your ticket and bring whatever you deem necessarily to party correctly because “The Party by OSTBAHNHOF is “queer” in the modern definition of the term… designed for anyone who is open to discovering their weirdness and is mutually respecting of others’. Whether you identify as LGBT or straight, this party brings all sexual orientations together. Why stratify when we can unify?” YAS. KWEEN. This party is clearly not exclusive. Come as whoever the fuck you want. That is so important and can’t be stressed enough. That really should be every party’s motto and come to think of it, I’m not really sure why it’s not, but The Party is a fabulous place to start. …

INTERRACIAL No.24 at Bedlam

Wednesday 11.25.15

Party: GAYLETTER’s INTERRACIAL No.24

Our last Interracial at Bedlam Bar was fucking nuts. It was just the right energy for Halloween and the looks were as brilliant and bizarre as we expect from our readers. We had so much fun we knew we had to do it again soon. Well, ‘soon’ is tonight, November 25 (Wednesday). It’s a pre-Thanksgiving Interracial for all you boys who are still in town. For those of you leaving Thursday morning, this will be your last chance to have a dance and get some D before you have to spend the next 4 days talking about your job and the state of the country with your extended family. Music for the party is by DJ Thom John and DSO. Abi will probably help get you drunk at the door. You can expect plenty of carrying, kiking and cute boys. Bring a good attitude and plenty of reasons you’re thankful. It’s time to get Interracial hunty!

$5, 10:00PM, Bedlam Bar, 40 Avenue C New York, NY.

Party: FIESTA LATINA

The main reason I am writing about this party is because it has the word “Latina” in it and every other party is just so white these days. First, I am gonna say, I’ve been to this bar in the past and there’s something that’s not quite right about it, the decor is very “gay LA,” but then again, I don’t really judge locations and I was there with some friends about 3 months ago having $5 frozen margaritas that tasted a bit like gasoline, (I finished like 2 before I was acting crazy) and I had a good time. Unfortunately it’s in Hell’s Kitchen, an area I don’t really go to because it’s a circus. The last time I hooked up with someone in that area my glasses broke and I had to get in a taxi holding then to my face, I am telling you, it’s never a good sign. Anyways, I am Latino… and here’s what they are offering at this party: “Let’s celebrate together to the rhythm of Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Cumbia, Samba...!!” Hay Coño! “Our hottest bartenders Pedro Alvarado, Jake Benson, Hector Diaz and Nicolay Espitia will be hosting your night.” Most of them sound Latino, so that’s a good sign. “Nicolay will be dancing with you Salsa and Merengue from 5pm-10pm! Some Latin “Appetizers” will be provided...Margaritas and Cuba Libres for only $ 5 all night. All our drinks $2 less from 5pm to 8pm and also from 11pm until midnight.” Jesus take the wheel.

FREE, 5:00 PM, Barrage Bar, 401 WEST 47TH ST NY, NY.
