Party: Shhh!!! (a metamorphosis)

Sleep No More at the McKittrick Hotel is really fun. I mean it’s also kind of dumb — what's with the mandatory masks and the constant reminder that you should be having an “individual experience” — but if you ignore all that it’s pretty great. It’s just a shame it costs $100 bucks. Well not anymore! This Wednesday we all get a chance to visit the McKittrick Hotel for the bargain basement price of $10. Susanne Bartsch is throwing a party there called Shhh!!!. She tells us the name is reflective of the “vibe of the party, it’s not in a club so it has that secret, underground feeling...like we’re sneaking into this amazing old hotel after dark.” The McKittrick doesn’t often let people throw parties there, since they make so much money running Sleep No More. Speaking of which Susanne says that the party will have elements of Sleep No More, she tells us: “there will be performers and installations hidden in little nooks and crannies throughout the space, the inspiration for this first one is metamorphosis, so all the installations will be changing and progressing throughout the night.” She also says “I may just show up naked and get dressed during the party lol metamorphosis baby!” RSVP to shhh@mckittrickhotel.com. to ensure your entry. We suggest you get stoned before you go, that place is great high. Just avoid mushrooms, that could get intense especially if they have the “rave” room open. Good Lord!

$10, 11:00PM, McKittrick Hotel, 530 W. 27th St. NY, NY.

Party: WHITE DIAMONDS – WHITE PARTY – WD40

I’ve never been a fan of parties with a white dress code. I’m from the Caribbean and every wedding that happens on the beach they always wear white, then there’s the Palm Springs White Party, and then of course there’s Russell Simmons’ white party in the Hamptons (I went once and 95% of the people didn’t look right). White clothes have to fit well, because unlike black, white is not a forgiving color; you gotta wear the right panties; white stains easily; white is just a pain. The great news is that while Saturday’s party has the word ‘white’ twice in the title the organizers are not boring. If you wear white you’ll get the champagne special, but it’s not mandatory. It’s presented by Bizarre & Jessamess and hosted by Merrie Cherry Jason Daniels, Danielle Daguilh, Felix & The Future and Gopushpops. Untitled Queen will be the emcee for the night and music is by Jessamess and Lauren Flax. Expect “white, glitter, snow, metal, silver, ice, bling, booze, bubbles, body, wavvy, paper, grillz, summer, sand, stars, glass, teeth, light, yay, diamonds, white, snowcones, crystals, powder, skimask...” and more. You can be sure that if you do wear white it’ll get real dirty. You just have to embrace it filthy queen.

FREE, 10:00PM-4:00AM, Bizarre, 12 Jefferson St. BK, NY.

Mike Madrigal’s Electro Masquerade Ball 3

Featuring Dangerous Muse with friends Love Bailey, Penny Wren, and Sandflower at the Highline Ballroom.

Sunday 08.11.13

Party: Electro Masquerade Ball

This event is presented by Mike Madrigal and The Magic Motion Music company. It’s an anonymous night with “live music, video art, burlesque performances and art Installations set against giant 1950’s and 60’s sci-fi cinema projections throughout the venue.” Dangerous Muse is headlining the event with a performance at 9:00PM and they will be previewing new music from their upcoming EP. Mike Furey from Dangerous Muse told me that “The Highline recently upgraded their ballroom, installing new lights and video features. We will be showing clips from our upcoming music video for ‘Fame Kills’ (which will premiere in Washington, DC at the Art Museum of the Americas on August 29th).” Exciting, right? Other performers include Eva & Her Virgins, Keyke, Sandflower, Liquid Blonde and more... It’s hosted by a group of cool peeps including Gio Black Peter, Dalton Flint, Frankie Sharp, Delysia LaChatte, J Lamar and Tyler Stone to name a few. Masks will be provided at the door or you can bring your own. It’s just like Eye’s Wide Shut...except full of grungy queers instead of kinky billionaires — cue the single piano key played monotonously over and over!

$15-$20, 6:00PM-2:00AM, Highline Ballroom, 431 W 16th St. NY, NY.

Party: Heartthrob at Ace Hotel

Ace Hotel seems like the perfect place to throw a queer party, but for some reason they haven’t had that much luck getting one off the ground. It could be the location (middle of the Flatiron district) but that’s a lazy excuse considering some of the best parties we’ve been to have been in the far reaches of Bushwick and the depths of the 4,5,6. The fact is homos will travel for a good time. Whatever the reason, we’re glad they’re giving it another shot. And we have high hopes for this one. First off, love the name, very sexy. Also love the enthusiasm of its hosts: Robert Merill and Ruby Roo. Here’s what Robert told us about the night: “It’s been a long time since Ace has done something specifically for a gay crowd, and they’re not fucking around. They put the hosts, plus DJ Rich King in the big room downstairs, Liberty Hall. They asked us what kind of decorations we needed and we said in unison: ‘Just make sure the dancefloor is dark.’ It’s called Heartthrob. We’re going full-on disco with it. We hope to see beards smeared with sweat and lipstick, smelling of Rush.” Well I for one don’t think that’s too much to ask.

FREE, 10:00PM, Liberty Hall at Ace Hotel, 16 ½ West 29th St., NY, NY

Party: Occupy the Disco

Josh Appelbaum, Tadeu Magalhães, Ru Bhatt and David Dellamura are the boys behind Occupy the Disco. Basically these homosexuals want to bring us a party with “good music.” This sounds super serious; it made me question if I even know what good music is, I mean I only dance when I’m drunk and listen to anything my friends play... I FB chatted with David to ask him what he considers ‘good music.’ He told me that it “isn’t defined by a single formula or genre. It’s whatever makes you move and dream. It’s music that surprises people...Music that makes you fall in love with it the first time you hear it... and has the power to bring back great memories...” Homosexuals can sell you anything honey. He goes on to say “house and disco music have unified the gay community since the 70’s, and so much of our history is rooted on those dancefloors.” He has a point — so pay attention! This Friday will be David and co.’s first party at Le Bain, which we think is a great idea. Guest DJs include Mighty Mouse and Lane 8 (San Francisco). I’d say even if you’re not serious about music just go for the cock.

Future Perfect: Build The Bureau

A fundraiser for The Bureau of General Services — Queer Division at The Pyramid Club.

Wednesday 08.07.13

Party: FUNDRAISER FOR BGSQD

The Bureau of General Services - Queer Division is a “queer cultural center, bookstore, and event space that has been hosted by Strange Loop Gallery since 2012.” Pretty soon they’ll abandon that space, for somewhere more permanent on the LES. But it’s gonna cost some serious moola — $50k in fact (they’ve set up an Indiegogo campaign). Before you get your knickers in a knot and start saying stupid shit like “they should spend their own money like every other business” I will point out that they’re actually a non-profit. All the money goes back into the bureau so they can continue to stock hard-to-find queer publications and host super-special gatherings. Which brings us to this benefit party. Every faggot in town is involved in helping them raise money. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. It’s a long list but here goes: “performances will start at 9:00PM with a special return for Jack Waters & Peewee Nyob, then Dan Fishback, Dane Terry & Reginald M. Lamar. At 10:00PM, a special hour curated with Earl Dax and Pussy Faggot! hosted by Penny Arcade with guest Max Steele & others. At 11PM the line-up continues with Colin Self, Brett Every, Nicholas Gorham, Linda Simpson, Jonathan Dalin & Karl Marks! At 12PM Shane-Shanes party, FANCY Present Music and Merriment with Mark Dommu, JanTina Parker, Chris Tyler, Valerie Geffner & Paul Leopold. Plus some of NYC’s Best DJs: Gio Black Peter, Ash Wood, Dandylion, Will Automagic & Sean B.” I told you, these queers aren’t playing.

$15, free if you donate on Indiegogo, 9:00PM, The Pyramid Club, 101 Ave A. NY, NY.

Party: BE CUTE

One Last Shag (the venue for this party) better clear out all their furniture because this is set to be one hell of a blow out. What we know about the event is limited, but what we can tell you for certain is that “THIS IS A DANCE PARTY!!!” That’s something the organizers want us to all to be very clear about. Which I like. It’s important to know what you’re getting into before heading to a party, and if dancing is going to be the main focus, then I want to know (if for no other reason than being able to pick out the right shoes). DJs Matty Beats and Merkin Muffley will provide beats for the night while you enjoy frozen margaritas on their patio. There’s not really much else to say. Give me dancing and frozen margs and I’m yours for life. There’s no cover to get in, but they do ask one thing of every guest, and that’s to be cute. Cute isn’t about being pretty, cute is an attitude, a state of mind. Polite people are cute. Funny people are cute. Friendly people are cute. People who dance like weirdos without a care in the world are super cute. You’re cute ;)

Party: Blush and Bashful

I just heard from Cameron Dailey (who’s organizing this event with Christopher “Blush” Runyonce) about this new “silly, sexy, fun” monthly party that’s taking place at Metropolitan Bar in Williamsburg. He told me it’s a “Hip hop moment in pursuit of a good time.” It sounds perfect for the Summer. This is the time of year when we’re feeling the most slutty and definitely want to connect with our inner Destiny’s Child. I love that music is by DJ Runyonce, I have a feeling Beyonce and Blue Ivy would fit right in at this event. To keep you twerking the bar is offering a “juice” special, which is $3, but I don’t know what it is, you should inquire about it  once you get there — it sounds juicy. They’re also setting up “a champagne backroom for high class sluts.” I guess that’s what I am because I love champagne, although I really can’t imagine drinking it at Metro... It’s the type of place I usually associate with cheap beer and cheaper vodka, but there’s a first for everything I guess. One last thing, they’re begging all attendees to wear pink. Jesus take the wheel...

FREE, 10:00PM-2:00AM, Metropolitan Bar, 559 Lorimer St. BK, NY.
